Übung: Digital Practice B: Data Analysis and Visualizations

Content:
The module introduces students to various methods of quantitative and qualitative analysis. These will be imple mented using digital data collections relevant for the archaeology and history of ancient Western Asia. In additi on, strategies of data and information visualization in the form of diagrams, spatial and temporal mappings and networks will be taught and practically applied in case studies.

Learning objectives:
Acquisition of methodological competencies for the analysis and visualization of data and information in the field of cultural heritage and ancient studies research. Students will be enabled to independently develop and critically examine acquired knowledge against the background of circumscribed datasets; practical training is achieved through exercises and project work.

Examination:
a) presentation (approx. 45 minutes) with handout (1 to 2 pages) or
b) term paper (2,000 to 2,500 words excluding bibliography) or
c) practical project (e. g. network analysis, quantitative evaluation of an object corpus and/or mapping in time and space, approx. 30 hours total)
