Conference HEPPsinki
06/10/2026On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Corinna Keupp gave a talk titled “#JusticeForGrenfell - Identifying Emotional Response Patterns to Tragedy on Social Media” at the Sixth Helsinki Conference on Emotions, Populism, and Polarised Politics (HEPP6), held between the 18th and the 20th of May 2026 at the University of Helsinki, Finland. The corresponding study was developed at our Geolingual Studies research and teaching unit and focused on the spatial and temporal analysis of tweets related to the Grenfell Tower fire, which took place in London in 2017.
The conference was organised by the Helsinki Hub on Emotions, Populism, and Polarisation (HEPPsinki) at the Faculty of Social Sciences, an international and interdisciplinary research community that studies populism from a cultural perspective. HEPPsinki explores topics such as mobilisation, humour, ressentiment, and resilience, and brings together researchers well beyond the University of Helsinki.
At this conference, presentations were delivered consecutively within each panel, followed by an extended discussion session that allowed participants and audience members to engage with one another and reflect on themes, questions, and connections that emerge across all the panel presentations.
The conference also included a reception at the City Hall and offered free walking tours of the city, which presented itself in beautiful, sunny spring weather.
