ABOUT THE ENGLISH DRAMA GROUP (EDG)
The English Drama Group was founded in 1975 and has been a part of the university ever since. At the end of each semester, a new play is performed. During the last few years, the EDG has experimented with different types of theatre, eg immersive theatre, promenade theatre, improv theatre, while also putting on more traditional forms of stage plays. All of our past productions were very well received by our audience.
In the EDG, we communicate exclusively in English. Members of the group will therefore not only get to know a new play each semester (which might be very useful for their studies) and contribute to its production, but will also improve their English. Moreover, we organize socials and fundraisers (eg The English Pub Quiz), which makes the EDG a great place to get to know new people and make friends.
We are always looking for new actors/actresses and backstage staff. If you would like to join the EDG, please proceed to the contact page.
CURRENT PLAY
The English Drama Group is delighted to announce its upcoming presentation of "The Thanksgiving Play" by Larissa Fasthorse. Join us for captivating performances scheduled for the 13th, 14th, and 15th of December at the Philisophisches Institute, commencing at 7 pm each evening.
A yoga instructor and aspiring actor, a teacher with a passion for writing, a director with a strong moral compass, and an LA actress walk into an elementary school classroom…
What sounds like the start of a hilarious joke, is the premise of the Thanksgiving Play about four well - intentioned theatre people aiming to stage a Thanksgiving show that won't offend anyone, What could possibly go wrong?
In Larissa Fasthorse's satirical comedy - just about everything. Join this quartet of thespians in the writer's room, ad they rewrite the history that glosses over the genocide of indegenous people, condones historical stereotypes, all while trying to jeep it child-friendly.
Opinionated, sometimes problematic, and not altogether politically correct, The thanksgiving Play serves up the hypocrises of woke America on a big, family - style, platter.
