Mobile Feminisms

What happens when feminism goes mobile, traveling across time and space as well as medial frameworks and cultural repertoires? “Mobile Feminisms: Gender, Social Media, Transnational Connections” explores these questions in seminars, workshops, and further collaborative endeavors between the Julius-Maximilians-Universität (JMU) Würzburg and Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMI) New Delhi.

Workshops & Further Activities

Mobile Feminisms Kick-Off Workshop at JMU Würzburg featuring presentations by Prof. Dr. Simi Malhotra (Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi) and Dr. Jennifer Leetsch (Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies | Universität Bonn) from May 8 -12, 2023. Mobile Feminisms Workshop at JMI New Delhi featuring Mobile Feminisms Researchers from JMU and JMI from September 22-27, 2023. poster

Mobile Feminisms Networking Workshop explores the question of how feminism goes mobile through online and analogue connectivities in an appropriately hybrid format from 13-14 October, 2023. The workshop more specifically considers frameworks of publishing, organizing, and working within (and sometimes around) established institutional frameworks such as university structures. Our approach in this compact gathering builds on the power of dialogue between participants based in India and Germany and further aims to activate the original sense of a workshop as a workroom by asking contributors to share not just the concepts and insights guiding their work, but also their practical strategies, procedures, and experiences in getting work done (poster, schedule)

Further workshops are planned for 2024: February | March at JMI New Delhi and June at JMU Würzburg.

The project is further supported at JMU by the Masters | graduate seminars “Mobile Feminisms I” (Summer Semester 2023) and “Mobile Feminisms II” (Summer Semester 2024) as well as the the undergraduate seminar "Feminism(s): Histories and Theories" (Summer Semester 2024).
