Workshop: Magic in the Persianate and Islamic Worlds

This workshop explores the category of magic as it appears in literary and material sources composed in Persian and Arabic from Late Antiquity to the Medieval period. Bringing together scholarship on the pre-modern Arabophone Islamic and Persianate worlds, it seeks to shed light on bodies of evidence that have long been marginalized in broader discussions of magic, from ritual practices, talismans, and magical handbooks to demons and jinn.
