Mittwoch 15. Juli, 18.00 ct
Seminarraum 113 der Domerschulstraße 13 (Institut für Musikforschung)
Guest Professor Zhu Guowei's lecture will focus on four types of Chinese string instruments discovered at various archaeological sites: the qin (琴), the se (瑟), the zheng (筝), and the zhu (筑). While the earliest finds date to the seventh century BCE, not all of these instruments have survived to the present day. After shortly introducing to the historical and cultural contexts, the presentation will use a combination of images and literature to systematically introduce the shape, structure, and sound capabilities of these instruments. The lecture will also explore questions related to string fixation, tuning techniques, and playing postures by experimenting with replicas of the instruments.
