In Death as in Life?

In Death as in life? The tombs of the upper class in the Liao, Song and Jin Dynasties (915 – 1279)

The project under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dieter Kuhn, funded by the DFG (1990 – 1993), aimed to record the tombs of the upper class of the Liao, Song and Jin dynasties for the purpose of analyzing development and to illuminate a typology of the tombs according to the social stratification of the upper class as a consequence of historical and regional change. For this purpose, grave inscriptions from tombs were made accessible as primary historical sources, land purchase contracts were translated and processed as documents of popular religion and the connection between practice and theory in how the dead were handled in was examined.
